ABOUT
Learning In Style School provides quality education in English, computer, and citizenship in a supportive and respectful environment to immigrants and refugees from dozens of different nations. Our school is committed to making a difference in the lives of our students by offering personalized attention and a comprehensive curriculum. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where every student can thrive and achieve their full potential.

LIS School hires professional teachers who hold bachelor's or advanced degrees in Education, English, English ESL and/or English Teaching to Foreign Language Learners. We do not have volunteers teaching classes, but instead have them work one-on-one with students, or help support in-class teaching.
HISTORY
Founded in 1994 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Learning In Style (LIS) focused on educating adults who hadn’t completed high school and needed help attaining their diploma.
After two years the school realized there was another, greater need – English instruction for new immigrants who had moved to the United States and settled in Minneapolis.
LIS has since offered English, computer and math modules to assist students with day-to-day functioning and/or securing employment, as well as giving them opportunities for becoming citizens, pursuing diplomas and mentoring newer immigrants.

In recent years, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet dedicated significant time considering how to ensure that ministries such as LIS would continue to thrive and reach even more people. In 2024, the Sisters and the Board of Directors created a new organization, Accola, that could be carried on by others to make an even greater impact.
