Over 40 LIS students receive Hennepin County Library cards

Last week, senior librarian Ari Baum-Hommes of Hennepin County’s Franklin Library visited LIS to share the many (MANY!) resources of the Hennepin County Libraries with our students. She explained that students can visit any of the 42 Libraries and take home books, movies, CDs, etc. — in a wide variety of languages — borrowing them for free for up to 3 weeks. She also shared the many tools for English language learning, GED support, multi-lingual homework help, and citizenship test prep that our students can access through the Libraries. And she showed our students how to use the Library website not only to request items, but to find out about events and activities for themselves and their families at any of the library branches. Prior to Ari’s visit, teachers offered students the opportunity to submit library card applications, and so Ari arrived bearing over 40 library cards ready to use. We are so grateful that our students could be personally introduced to this essential and expansive community resource, thanks to Ari’s visit. It was a crowd-pleaser!
